The project “Reviving Lumëbardhi: The Kotradiq Dam Removal Initiative”, supported by the European Open Rivers Programme and implemented by Ecopana, is delivering robust, field-based scientific results from research conducted on the Lumëbardhi River in Deçan.

Key scientific findings include:

A species new to science: Rhyacophila europeaea sp. nov.

Two species recorded for the first time in Kosovo: Hydropsyche contubernalis & Potamophylax seprus

These findings confirm the high ecological value of the Lumëbardhi River and underscore the critical importance of placing science at the core of river restoration processes and dam removal decision-making.

Today in Peja, stakeholders gathered to present the scientific reports, discuss the future of the Kotradiq Dam, and exchange views on evidence-based decision-making for river restoration and barrier removal.
